Maardu Gymnasium Urban Farm Smart Greenhouse Project

Maardu Gymnasium has launched a new and inspiring educational project centered on Urban Farm's Smart Greenhouse. This is a project that brings green technology, circular economy and practical environmental education to school studies and helps young people develop the skills and attitudes needed in a sustainable lifestyle and green economy world.

With the support of the Environmental Investment Center, the smart greenhouse enables students to learn how to grow plants in an environmentally friendly way using technology. The smart greenhouse is not just a tool for growing plants – it is an interdisciplinary learning platform that integrates natural sciences, entrepreneurship education, art, literature and language studies.

Today's education needs more practical, life-related and future-oriented learning opportunities. The smart greenhouse solves this gap: it brings practical environmental awareness, circular economy and green technology learning to a completely new level at school. The smart greenhouse enables students to understand how food production, natural resource use and climate change are related.

As part of the project, new educational materials are being prepared. High school students compile practical work instructions, worksheets, photos, thematic videos and presentations. After the first half of the first school year, students in grades 10-12 will train students in grades 7-9 themselves using their own created teaching materials.

One of the important outputs of the project is an educational conference that will involve other schools. High school students prepare presentations, videos and posters for the conference where they share their learning experiences and results. During the conference, tasty snacks made from plants grown in the greenhouse are offered.
